Job Summary Objective The Senior Automation Engineer plays a key role in the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of automated systems supporting pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing. Develop and maintain User Requirements Specifications (URS), Functional Design Specifications (FDS), and detailed design documentation. Support and lead Computer System Validation (CSV) activities, including development and execution of IQ/OQ/PQ protocols in alignment with GAMP 5. Ensure all system changes follow the site Change Control, Risk Assessment, and Deviation processes. Maintain complete and compliant documentation aligned with cGMP, FDA, and ISO quality requirements. Plan and execute automation projects from concept through startup, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget adherence. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including Process Engineering, Quality, Validation, Maintenance, and IT. Mentor and guide junior automation engineers and technicians, fostering technical knowledge and adherence to best practices. Evaluate emerging technologies, propose modernization initiatives, and participate in digital transformation projects (MES, data historians, etc.). Profile and Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field. Minimum 7+ years of experience in automation and control systems within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical devices manufacturing environments. Advanced proficiency in PLC/DCS programming, SCADA/HMI configuration, CSV, and software lifecycle processes. Strong knowledge of computer system lifecycle, change control, and FDA regulatory requirements. Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Wonderware, or similar platforms. Proficiency with databases (MS SQL), and networking infrastructure. Experience with data historian tools (OSI PI or equivalent). Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings. Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills. Bilingual English/Spanish required. All roles include client facing collaboration. Responsibilities include defining system architecture, creating design specifications, programming PLC/DCS/SCADA applications, tuning loops, and supporting startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead projects from concept through commissioning alongside other excellent engineers. Location: The preferred candidate will be located between Orange County and San Diego and must be able to travel up to 30% of the time. You Will: Provide control systems design, development, and onsite support for systems of varying complexity Interact with customers to gain an understanding of the business environment. Define scope, plans, and deliverables for assigned work Modify program/system logic involving multiple systems and subsystems Develop proficiency in several programming languages and control device networks for PLCs, PCs, DCS Work successfully in a team environment; focused strongly on customer service and continuous improvement Enjoy going to Travel to local sites two to four days per week Appreciate the documentation and planning aspects of engineering in a regulated environment Serve as an ambassador who embodies our Core Values, prioritizing the success of E Tech Group, our clients, and the professional development of our associates.    You Have: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering 5 years of experience Consulting/billable environment experience Proficiency in troubleshooting control systems and an understanding of process control Industry experience in: Biotech, water/wastewater, chemical, Food & Beverage Applied knowledge of TCP/IP, computer networks, and control system networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, etc.) Control panel and I/O electrical design, operation, troubleshooting Motor / valve / skid interfaces and control Product expertise: Object oriented / S88 / UDT architecting     PLC (Rockwell, Siemens) or DCS Platforms (Rockwell PlantPAx, Siemens PCS7) Rockwell experience with products such as: ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PlantPAx, Factory Talk Software Suite (FT View, FT Historian, FT AssetCentre), Studio 5000, PLC5, SLC500, RSView, PanelView Plus, etc. Ignition experience: Perspective, alarms & notification, reporting, SQL bridge, and tag historian modules Other SCADA and HMI package experience (Proficy, Wonderware, TIA Portal) Experience implementing detailed control system electrical design packages Excellent written and verbal communication skills Pluses but not strictly required: Understanding of Biopharmaceutical processes, S88 Batch, GMP, and validation Instrumentation experience DeltaV AVEVA PI Historian experience. Responsibilities include testing, calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting integrated control systems, electronic equipment and instrumentation. You will be working closely with project managers and other engineers to leverage their technical experience and expertise in, instrumentation, networking, Data Collection and software development to deliver high-quality and high-value solutions.  You will:  Perform validation testing activities in a regulated/GxP environment Process calibration documentation in a timely manner Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on plant instrumentation and equipment Generate test procedures and forms.
